OPS-EPS' crucial instructions to MLAs; AIADMK to launch paper, TV

The AIADMK led by chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam on Wednesday directed MLAs to ignore TTV Dhinakaran and DMK during the forthcoming assembly session.

Dhinakaran, who won the recently concluded RK Nagar by-election, will make his debut in the assembly on January 8.

At the MLAs meeting in Chennai on Wednesday, convened ahead of the January 8 session of the Tamil Nadu Assembly, the legislators were advised to maintain decorum at any given situation and abide by the party whip.

In an hour-long meeting at the AIADMK headquarters, the two leaders exhorted party MLAs, some 104 of them who attended the meet, to be disciplined in the House and be brave against the onslaught of the opposition.

Speaking to reporters later, fisheries minister D Jayakumar said seven MLAs, including three ministers, Sellur K Raju, Kadambur Raju and G Baskaran could not make it for the meeting due to ill-health and prior engagements.

Meanwhile, the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), which is now without any mouthpiece of its own, has decided to launch a Tamil daily and a television channel.

The Namathu MGR daily and Jaya TV network, which have served as the party’s mouthpiece over the years, are now controlled by jailed leader V K Sasikala and her family.
