We don't want cash chest of govt: Kamal

Kamal Haasan on Tuesday told his fans that he was not forming a political party with an eye on the government treasury.

He also hailed the protests for Jallikattu, that rocked Tamil Nadu last year, as a victory of common public.

"Today is the anniversary of Jallikattu agitation. It was a revolution in which the commoners won. It was a victory of the untiring hearts and unrelenting efforts of Tamils. Long live great Tamils," he said in a tweet.

Later, addressing his fans, he said their journey towards the people started 37 years back.

"We are not journeying towards the cash chest but towards people's progress. Those who didn't ask the question what is in it for me for the last 37 years will not ask now," he said.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu fisheries minister D Jayakumar on Tuesday took a swipe at Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth by stating that the duo's digital space politicking were nothing but acts of self-promotion.

Also, Lok Sabha deputy speaker M Thambidurai, one of the senior leaders of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, said, "No matter whoever comes to politics including Rajini and Kamal, they can not become MGR."
