Gnani's body donated to medical college; CM, Stalin, Rajini pay tributes

Several top celebrities and politicians, including Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, paid rich tributes to eminent journalist, writer, thinker, political analyst and dramatist Gnani Sankaran, who passed away early on Monday.



Gnani was known for his views on politics and culture, which he has expressed in the media for 30 years. For several years, he was the go-to political commentator on Tamil Nadu.



Gnani had been undergoing dialysis for last five years due to kidney ailment. His illness could not prevent the firebrand journalist of the 80s from indulging in what he thought was right and the principles he stood for. He was vocal in expressing his opinion always.



In deference to his wish, the journalist’s body was handed over to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital Medical College on Monday evening. His eyes were donated to Sankara Nethralaya.



Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and other political leaders condoled the death of journalist, playwright and literary critic Gnani.



In a statement, Palaniswami said Gnani was a hard worker and led a simple life and his death is a big loss to the media industry. DMK working president M.K. Stalin recalled Gnani’s friendship with DMK leaders M. Karunanidhi and Murasoli Maran.
