Soon after he was selected for the Padma Vibhushan award, the country's second highest civilian honour, music maestro Ilayaraja was greeted by political leaders in Tamil Nadu and film personalities.
DMK working president and leader of opposition in Tamil Nadu Assembly, M K Stalin, said, "it is so apt that the award is being presented to Ilayaraja, who is spreading the pride of Tamils all over the world with his music."
Superstar Rajinikanth said, "Elated at Ilayaraja being selected for Padmavibhushan. My heartioest congratulations to him."
Kamal Haasan said, "Award for my Ilayaraja, who is my senior. He had the qualificiation for the honour at young age itself. Raja and his fans would forgive this delayed pride. The award, the country and Tamil Nadu are feeling proud."
Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev said, "Ilayaraja has delighted a whole generation with his vibrant music. Congratulations Sir."
DMDK president Vijayakanth said, "My wishes and appreciations to musical genius Ilayaraja for the Padma Vibhushan honour. He should receive more such awards."
Bharatiya Janata Party state unit president Tamilisai Soundararajan said the award is a recognition for the great music service rendered by the music composer.
