DMK, TTV slam governor's visits, Minister says Purohit is 'Makkal governor'

The DMK on Tuesday showed black flags to Tamil Nadu governor Banwarilal Purohit, who was in Thanjavur. AIADMK rebel leader TTV Dhinakaran too condemned his meetings with state government officials.

Led by former union minister T R Baalu, scores of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam members showed black flags amid tight security which was in place.

The DMK, which did not take kindly to the Governor’s penchant for conducting district-wise review of administrative work and engaging directly with the public, staged a black flag protest right outside the New Bus Stand, where the Governor was promoting the Swachh Bharat initiative.

Baalu and another former union minister S S Palanimanikkam, former state Ministers, party MLAs, office-bearers and cadre, numbering more than 300, waved black flags, protesting against the Governor’s visit.

Meanwhile, amid the opposition slamming Purohit for visiting districts and meeting officials, a state minister has come out in his support, describing him as people's governor.

"People's governor has come from orange growing Nagpur to paddy growing Thanjavur," Tamil Nadu minister for Tamil Language and Culture K Pandiarajan said.
