CM welcomes, oppn slam Union budget

The union budget tabled by finance minister Arun Jaitley in Parliament on Thursday evoked mixed reactions in Tamil Nadu political arena.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswamiwelcomed the Union budget describing it as 'fairly balanced' and 'growth-oriented'.

"I commend the Union Finance Minister for presenting the Budget which is fairly balanced, growth-oriented, that focuses on development of agriculture, rural development and health sector," he said about the first post-GST regime budget by Arun Jaitley.

Palaniswami said, “We welcome the decision to give a big push to agricultural and allied sector. Enhancement of the minimum support price for all crops to cover at least 1.5 times that of the production cost will benefit the farmers in a big way.”

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president S Thirunavukkarasar said, "the budget has been prepared by having the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in mind. Various crucial issues have not been addressed."

Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko said, "Jaitley has said the income of farmers would double. Was he meaning the Adani group? I think Jaitely should be in a different world to claim that the earnings of farmers would double by 2022."
