Alleging that the state government has not fulfilled their long-pending demands, Tamil Nadu Electricity Board workers owing allegiance to CITU, BMS and a few other trade unions have said they wold go on strike from today.
These unions have not accepted the government's offer of Rs 2500 to regular employees and Rs 1,250 to retired employees as interim relief from October, 2017 and want the government to finalise the wage agreement and implement the same.
The protesters said the wage revision, which ought to be done every four years, had been pending for TANGEDCO employees since December 2015.
T. Jaishankar, deputy general secretary, TANGEDCO unit of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), alleged that the government was inclined towards dragging the process as much as possible.
Meanwhile, Electricity Minister Thangamani has said the government would take all steps to ensure that power supply is not interrupted. He also requested staff members to come back to work and added that the government would look into their demands.
He had said the affiliated unions of the CITU and BMS had called for a strike even as talks were on to resolve their demands.
