After several rounds of talks between the digital service providers (DSPs) and the members of various south Indian film industries, the latter have announced that the strike will happen from today.
The Producers Council of South India has expressed their unhappiness against Digital Service Providers (DSP) like Qube for charging unfair VPF (Virtual Print Fee), which, according to them, makes producers and exhibitors suffer.
For a regional film, the costs come up to Rs 22,500 per screen for the producer. This charge includes a fee for hiring and delivering the content through digital distribution channel in theatres.
While theatre operators and DSPs earn from advertising, this revenue doesn’t reach the producers. Producers, on the other hand, say that Hollywood films only get a charge of Rs 10,000 for their lifetime while regional content has to pay higher rates.
It is learnt that QUBE, one of the leading digital service providers, tried to reduce the fee from RS 22,500 to 14,000 but producers turned down the offer.
Jayendra, Co-founder of QUBE posted on Twitter: "Qube offers multiple price options in Bangalore meeting between Producers and Digital Service Providers including dramatic price reduction from 22,500 to 14,000 rupees. All offers turned down".
