Jyothika, who is currently busy shooting for Mani Ratnam’s Chekka Chivantha Vaanam in ECR, Chennai, will be reprising Vidya Balan’s role in the Tamil remake of Hindi hit Tumhari Sulu.
Vidya's portrayal of an innocent yet mischievous RJ Sulu was unanimously appreciated by critics and also won her the Filmfare award in the best actress category, apart from working wonders at the box office.
Mohan who gave Jyothika’s career-best role in Mozhi will be directing the Tamil version of Tumhari Sulu, the filmmaker is said to have already started working on the script.
Jyothika has teamed up with Mani Ratnam for the first time in ‘Chekka Chivantha Vaanam’, jointly produced by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions. The film has a cast including Simbu, Vijay Sethupathi, Arvind Swami, Arun Vijay, Aditi Rao Hydari and Aishwarya Rajesh in the lead.
Tumhari Sulu is a 2017 comedy-drama film directed by Suresh Triveni and produced under the banners of T-Series and Ellipsis Entertainment.
The film stars Vidya Balan as the titular character, an ambitious housewife who becomes a radio jockey for a late-night relationship advice show. Manav Kaul and Neha Dhupia co-star as Sulu's husband and boss, respectively.
Tumhari Sulu was released worldwide on 17 November 2017 , both critical and box office success earned over ₹584 million on a ₹200 million budget. The film received nine Filmfare Award nominations and won the Best Actress award for Vidya.
