National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed chargesheet against former Pakistan diplomat Amir Zubair Siddiqui, Counsellor (visa) at the Pakistan High Commission in Colombo, on charge of terror plot and conspiracy to attack vital establishments in India.
Reports said India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) even visited Sri Lanka and other countries to collect evidence to prove the involvement of the Pakistani citizen who was at the time a naval officer on deputation to Sri Lanka.
"We now have clinching evidence to prove the involvement of Siddiqui in the terror plot," officials were quoted as saying.
According to prosecution, while serving in Colombo from 2009 to 2016, Siddiqui had planned to attack vital installations in Chennai and other places with the help of spies.
He sent several persons including Mohamed Zakir Hussain, Arun Selvaraj and Sivabalan, to India to carry out explosions and float fake currencies.
Special Public Prosecutor for NIA, C.S.S. Pillai has filed the chargesheet before the special court for NIA Cases, Poonamallee, on Thursday.
Only recently, investigators with the National Investigation Agency arrested an Islamic State (IS/ISIS/Daish) supporter from the city as part of their probe of a plot by members and sympathisers of the jihadist group to carry out terror attacks in Tamil Nadu.
