All-party meeting on Cauvery issue in Secretariat today

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami will today chair an all-party meeting at the Secretariat to discuss the next course of action on the Cauvery verdict. This will be the first all party meet to be chaired by EPS.

The announcement of the meeting on Monday was significant as it came just hours after Opposition Leader and DMK working president M K Stalin decided to outsmart the ruling party by announcing an all-party meeting on the Cauvery issue and even inviting the AIADMK.

However, Stalin cancelled it immediately after the government issued an official statement about today’s discussion.

“Tamil Nadu government will immediately take steps on the issue after consulting and getting the views of leaders of all parties,” an official release said.

Stalin welcomed the announcement of the all-party meeting and said his party would participate in the meet and give constructive suggestions to the government on the issue.

On Friday, the Supreme Court had modified the 2007 Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal’s order, and directed Karnataka to release 177.25 TMC of water to Tamil Nadu as against 192 TMC earlier. The reduced amount of water was viewed as a setback to Tamil Nadu.
