Tamil Nadu will host the second edition of the Global Investors Meet (GIM) on January 23 and 24 next year. Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has allocated a sum of Rs 75 crore for the event. Sources indicated that the State may target an investment of Rs 3 lakh crore.
The last meet was held in September 2015. The next edition was scheduled two years later, but it got postponed due to various unstated reasons.
In June last, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami assured that it would be held in 2018. Even last month, Industries Minister M.C. Sampath said the GIM would be held this year, but it has been postponed.
"We welcome all national, international firms, national and international industrial federations, consulates and media to extend full cooperation to the meet and to make it a success...," a statement said on Monday.
The first edition of the Global Investors' Meet was held here in September 2015 when J Jayalalithaa was the chief minister. It saw investment commitments to the tune of Rs 2.42 lakh crore from 98 memoranda of understanding.
"An investment to the tune of Rs 62,738 crore from at least 61 companies are at various stages of implementation. This has created jobs for 96,341 people," the release added.
The second edition of GIM will be held at a time when the State will have a single window clearance for industry projects up and running and when several key infrastructure projects such as Chennai-Bengaluru Expressway, Chennai-Kanniyakumari Industrial Corridor and second phase of Chennai Metro are being taken up.
