The 70th birth anniversary of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa was celebrated in a grand manner across Tamil Nadu today.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam on today unveiled a statue of Jayalalithaa on the occasion of her birth anniversary, at All India Anna Dravida Munnetra (AIADMK) Headquarters in Chennai.
On the occasion, EPS and OPS also launched the party's mouthpiece 'Namadhu Purathchithalaivi Amma'.
Jayalalithaa's statue has been installed near the bust of the late leader's mentor MG Ramachandran in the lawns of the party headquarters.
Post the unveiling, which saw hordes of party cadre in attendance, many have gone to point out that the statue does not look like Jayalalithaa.
Jayalalithaa's pet project 'Amma Two-wheeler subsidy scheme' would be launched later in the evening by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
To mark Jayalalithaa's birth anniversary, 70 lakh saplings would be planted across the state and it would also be launched by Modi, that would significantly enhance the green cover of the state.
