Andal row: Jeer goes on fast again seeking apology from Vairamuthu

The head of Manavala Mamuni Math in Srivilliputhur has resumed his indefinite fast demanding an unconditional apology from popular film lyricist Vairamuthu for his alleged remarks against Goddess Andal.

The seer, who staged a similar protest earlier too protesting Vairamuthu and Tamil daily Dinamani editor Vaidyanathan for publishing a controversial article on Andal, dropped it after the journalist visited the temple and tendered an apology.

However, the lyricist, who had expressed regret for his remarks, is yet to apologise. Vairamuthu is also yet to visit the Andal temple to seek remedy for his action. Demanding both, the jeer has said he would go on hunger fast from Thursday.

A large number of people from different sub-sects of Hindu religion had staged protests in parts of Tamil Nadu demanding unconditional apology from the lyricist.

Cases have also been filed against the poet in Chennai and Rajapalayam.

In his address at a literary event at Rajapalayam in Virudhunagar district, Vairamuthu had last month spoken about Goddess Andal and it was also published in the Tamil daily.
