Cauvery: TN CM says next course of action after consulting legal experts

Tamil Nadu chief minister K Palaniswami today said the next course of action the Supreme Court's verdict in the Cauvery water issue will be taken up after consultation with legal experts.



Speaking to reporters in Coimbatore, he saidi said that it is heartening that the Supreme Court has ordered the setting up of Cauvery Water Management board in six weeks time.



On Friday, hours after the verdict, he expressed dissent over the Cauvery Water verdict, saying that the Supreme Court order reducing the allotment of water for the state from Cauvery river was 'disappointing.'



Addressing media, the Chief Minister further said that they would announced their next course of action after a detailed discussion with experts on the judgment.



He vowed to take all necessary steps including consultation with legal experts to ensure that the State got its rightful share of Cauvery water.



In a statement, Palaniswami said that several decisions in the case went in the State’s favour in the past due to the efforts taken by the AIADMK government. Rejecting criticism from the DMK, Mr. Palaniswami contended it was only during the party’s regime in 1974 that the State’s rights in the issue were lost.
