Protests continued for the second day on Sunday, in Chennai, over the death of Anitha, a Dalit medical aspirant and a petitioner in the Supreme Court against the National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test (NEET).
Several political parties and student bodies have come out on the street demanding scrapping of NEET.
VCK party workers were held when they staged a road blockade at Kilpauk here. A students' outfit tried to picket the government Multi-Super Speciality Hospital at Omanthurar Estate on the main road and its members were detained.
“Stalin says Anitha’s death is not suicide but murder. That’s what we are saying. The one who is to be accused is the DMK,” BJP state president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan said while lashing out at the DMK leader for accusing her party of “murdering the teenager.”
Stalin said the cruelty of NEET had been explained by the death of Anitha, whose dream of becoming a doctor was killed and all her efforts over two years in higher secondary schooling allowed to go waste.
Anitha was reportedly upset after it became known that Tamil Nadu will not be exempted from the ambit of National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test (NEET). She had earlier moved the Supreme Court against NEET.
