The Election Commission was on Friday informed about the merger of the two factions of the AIADMK and the resolutions adopted at its general council meeting, including on the ouster of interim general secretary V K Sasikala.
A communication addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner A.K. Joti and the other two Commissioners, signed by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E.Palaniswamy and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, was submitted on Friday, citing the resolutions adopted at the General Council after the merger of the two factions held on Sept 12 in Chennai.
It is to be noted that the Election Commission of India on Thursday told the factions of the AIADMK that it will hear their competing claims to the party's frozen 'two leaves' poll symbol on October 5.
"The EC has been informed that the two factions headed by O Panneerselvam and Edappadi Palaniswami have merged to protect Amma's legacy, to respect sentiments of party cadres and for good governance," senior party leader K P Munusamy told reporters.
It is submitted that the symbol of the party and its name are its identity amongst the public and the party cannot be deprived of the same even after the ultimate policy making body of the party have decided on the manner to take the party forward.
"lf any individual affidavits of support are being filed, such affidavits should be confined to the members of the Legislative wing (Members of Parliament and Legislative Assembly) and the apex level representative bodies in the organisational wing of the Party, i.e. the General Council and central Executive committee," the Election Commission said in its notice.
Meanwhile, Tenkasi MP Vasanthi Murugesan, who was a supporter of the sidelined party deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran, on Friday met Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and joined the ruling EPS-OPS group in the AIADMK.
"All I want is the continuation of Amma's government. Our leader vowed that the party would last 100 more years after her. Chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam (OPS) are striving hard to continue her welfare schemes," she told reporters.
