Opposition parties including the DMK have pressed for a CBI probe into the death of former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa, citing a state minister's recent remarks that AIADMK leaders lied about Jayalalithaa's health during her hospitalisation last year.
Deepa Jayakumar, Jayalalithaa's niece, said she would move to the court to for further clarifications.
DMK working president M K Stalin sought a CBI inquiry. "The Union Government should order a CBI probe to solve the issue," he added.
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president S Thirunavukkarasar demanded an investigation headed by a retired Supreme Court or a High Court judge.
Standing firm on his claim, Srinivasan said he is not bothered about the CBI or any other agencies. "We have already announced that a commission led by retired High Court Judge will be formed for a thorough probe. The head of the commission will be appointed soon," he added.
Dindigul Srinivasan on Friday claimed that party leaders were afraid of Sasikala and lied about the health condition of Jayalalithaa so that people would continue to believe that she was recovering. The stark revelation was made by Srinivasan while addressing a public rally in Madurai.
Srinivasan said that no one was allowed to meet Amma, as Jayalalithaa is fondly called within her party, and anyone visiting her in the hospital was briefed by Sasikala’s relatives that she was all right.
