Danfoss Industries Pvt. Ltd., an industry leader in climate and energy efficient solutions, hosted a panel discussion on Refrigerant Transition in India during the occasion of Refrigerant Day 2017.
The aim of this initiative is to promote awareness on the latest global and national updates on refrigerant transition and to discuss related challenges from an industry, manufacturer, OEM, distributor and overall market perspective. This is in lieu of Danfoss recently becoming a part of the UNEP initiative to promote the availability of affordable and sustainable cooling solutions across industries, drawing from the latest innovations in cooling industry.
Industry leaders including Dr. Sukumar Devotta, Member of United Nations Environment Programme, Mr. R K Mehta, Secretary – Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Manufacturers Association (RAMA), Mr. Viplov Rao, CEO, Werner Finley Pvt Ltd., Mr. Debyajyoti Bhuyan (Honeywell) and Mr. Jaroslaw Strzelczyk (Danfoss) were part of the discussion that was held at the Danfoss India campus in Chennai today.
Speaking at the event, Mr. RK Mehta, Secretary, RAMA said, “Among the various challenges that the industry faces with regards to adopting low GWP Refrigerants, the most critical is the lack of consensus in the RAC (Refrigeration & Air-conditioning) sector on alternate technical solutions which is integral to India’s vision to reduce the impact of refrigerants on Global Warming. Furthermore, with newer refrigerants coming in, safety is also a major concern that needs to be addressed”.
The panel discussion saw participants from the industry, OEMs, distributors, refrigerant distributors and academia who were presented with updates on the global and national refrigerants industry. Furthermore, the panel deliberated on the refrigerant transition that India is working towards in phasing out HCFCS (Hydro chlorofluorocarbons).
Mr. Sukumar Devotta highlighted the importance of engineering in terms of innovation, design, manufacturing, installation and servicing that would aid in making a smooth transition to this new phase, keeping in mind safety standards.
“At Danfoss, we are committed to facilitating innovations that have minimum economic and environmental costs, thereby ensuring a better tomorrow for our future generations. We are focused on proactively developing products that operate on low-GWP refrigerants to fulfil the industries’ demands for practical and safe solutions, without compromising on energy efficiency”, Mr. Ravichandran Purushothaman, President, Danfoss India said.
“Low-GWP refrigerants are the way to slow down and ultimately reverse the process of global warming. It is in our endeavour provide industries with energy-efficient products and solutions that aid in ‘’Engineering Tomorrow’s India in a sustainable manner,” he added.
