Sellur Raju stirs fresh controversy, probe into Jaya death to start soon

Cooperation minister Sellur K Raju on Tuesday said all ministers, including himself, had visited former chief minister J Jayalalithaa when she was undergoing treatment in Apollo Hospitals in Chennai last year.

"All ministers, including me, visited Amma in hospital," Raju told reporters in Chennai. This was contrary to what was claimed by forests minister Dindigul Sreenivasan, that none was allowed to meet the AIADMK supremo.

Raju, however, refused to elaborate, and said the death of ‘Amma’ was a huge loss. The cooperation minister said he was not prepared to say anything more on the issue.

Labour Minister Nilofer Kafeel told a private TV channel in New Delhi that she saw Jayalalithaa once, while the latter was being transferred from one room to another in the hospital.

In a public meeting last week, Sreenivasan sought pardon from the people as he had lied about Jayalalithaa's health and that she had eaten "idlis and chutney."

"Friends, the fact is none of us visited her. All of us lied of having met her in hospital. This is the truth, and you can well write it down," Sreenivasan said,

“Out of fear of this family… we would tell what we were told (by Sasikala’s kin)..that Amma had two idlis, she spoke and that she is fine,” he added.
