Amid outpouring emotions and sentiments, leaders of various political parties have expressed shock and grief over the suicide of young girl Anitha over not getting a medical seat due to the NEET.
DMK working president M K Stalin said the cruelty of NEET had been explained by the death of Anitha, whose dream of becoming a doctor was killed and all her efforts over two years in higher secondary schooling allowed to go waste.
Anitha led an unsuccessful campaign against NEET arguing in the Supreme Court that the new entrance test could not be the sole basis for admission in a medical college.
Failed by the system she tried hard to integrate herself into by scoring a very high 1,176/1,200 in Class 12, Anitha, daughter of a Dalit daily wage labourer from the most backward Ariyalur district in Tamil Nadu, killed herself by hanging on Friday.
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Health Minister Dr C Vijayabaskar expressed grief and sorrow over the suicide of Anitha and urged the students not to take such an extreme step under any situation.
AIADMK deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran said that the irresponsible act of the State government and the Centre, which promised to exempt Tamil Nadu from NEET, was responsible for her suicide.
