HC denies bail to lawyer in doctor murder case

The Madras High Court has turned down the bail granted to a lawyer, accused in the murder of a Chennai-based neuro surgeon over a property dispute in 2013. However, the court directed the police not to arrest him till 6


pm on May 15.




Justice RMT Teekaa Raman cancelled the bail granted to Williams, When the criminal original petition filed by the city police came up for hearing.




On September 14, 2013, Dr Subbiah was attacked by a gang near his work place at Raja Annamalai Puram, apparently due to a dispute over a 2.4-acre plot of land at Anjugramam near Kanyakumari.




Nine days later, the doctor succumbed to his injuries. The entire sequence of him being accosted by the gang and being hacked was captured by a CCTV installed in a nearby apartment.




According to reports, advocate Basil and his senior, Williams, attached to the Madurai Bench of the High court, approached the latter’s friend James Sathish Kumar (37), a physician of ESIC hospital, Tirunelveli.




Basil and his family allegedly wanted their relative Subbiah dead owing to a dispute over property worth over Rs. 12 crore in Anjugramam, Kanyakumari.
