Give us appointment over Cauvery issue: TN opposition to Modi

At a meeting of opposition party leaders in Tamil Nadu, led by DMK in Chennai on Monday, it was decided to seek an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to explain the problems faced by the farmers and urge him to set up Cauvery Management Board (CMB).

The meeting also passed a resolution to hold human chain protest on April 23 in all district headquarters to pressurise the Central government to set up the CMB and Cauvery Water Regulatory Authority (CWRC).

The opposition parties on Monday staged a  demonstration in the city to protest against the dilution of certain

provisions of SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

The agitation, led by DMK Working President M K Stalin, was held in front of the Valluvar Kottam in the city. Stalin said the Supreme court order that dilutes the Act adopted by Parliament was not acceptable.

"The Centre should immediately file an appeal in the Supreme Court and  protect the interests of the SC/ST community, besides including the Act in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution", he said.

Leaders of the opposition parties, including DMK allies and like-minded parties, met at DMK's headquarters and decided to seek an appointment with Modi as the AIADMK state government was not able to get an appointment with the PM.
