Stalin Meets Governor, Says Meeting With PM Likely

DMK working president M K Stalin today met Tamil Nadu governor Banwarilal Purohit, to mark the culmination of Cauvery Rights Retrieval Rally he undertook in Delta districts till Thursday.

Governor Banwarilal Purohit has promised to take all steps to facilitate a meeting of the leaders of all parties in the state with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to express their concerns over the Cauvery water dispute, said Stalin after the meeting.

He told reporters: ""We explained the situation in the state and wanted the governor to pressurise the Centre to set up the Cauvery Management Board even before the Centre presents its scheme to the Supreme Court on May 3."

He added: "The governor listened to us and said, ‘I understand your feelings on the issue and will speak to the Prime Minister and involve myself in facilitating your meeting with him."

On Thursday, addressing farmers in several parts of Tiruvarur district during the Cauvery Rights Retrieval March, Stalin said the Governor had given appointment to Opposition leaders to meet him on Friday.

The leaders would convey to him that they had lost confidence in Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami just as “he had lost confidence in the CM and was unilaterally conducting inspections all over the State”.
