TN To Release Exclusive Defence Policy: CM

Tamil Nadu government is formulating an "exclusive aerospace and defence policy" with an objective of achieving 25 per cent share in the sector in the country, Chief Minister K Palaniswami said.

He said this while speaking at Defence Expo, which was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top dignitatries.

Also, the CM presented a memorandum to the PM, urging him to set up Cauvery Management Board immediately.

In a memorandum presented to Modi in Chennai, Palaniswami said: "As you are aware, the Supreme Court in its verdict on 16.2.2018 has directed that a scheme should be formulated by the Government of India within six weeks to implement the notified Final Order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal as modified by its judgment."

"Further, on 9.4.2018, the Supreme Court has clearly stated that the Final Order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal has merged with the judgment of the Supreme Court," he said.

Stating that constitution of the Cauvery Management Board has become an integral part of Supreme Court’s judgment, the CM said, "the farmers of the Delta areas of Tamil Nadu who are dependent on Cauvery Water for Irrigation are fervently hoping that the above implementation machinery would be constituted by the Government of India to enable them to commence the agricultural operations in the next irrigation season which starts on 1.6.2018."

He requested Modi to immediately constitute the Cauvery Management Board and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee vested with all powers to effectively implement the orders of the Tribunal and the Supreme Court.
