Kollywood goes on protest for Cauvery, Rajini talks about multiple issues

Tamil film fraternity including Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan on Sunday observed a silent protest demanding the setting up of a Cauvery Management Board and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC).

Speaking to reporters earlier, Rajini attacked the government for dragging its feet over setting up the Cauvery Board. He warned that the Centre would earn Tamil Nadu's wrath if the board was not formed.

Rajinikanth on Sunday said it would be good if organisers stopped the IPL games as such a gala event would be embarrassing when the entire Tamil Nadu was agitating.

He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi must step in and set up the river management board without any delay in the interest of small and marginal farmers of Cauvery delta region of Tamil Nadu.

On his friend and competitor Kamal Haasan, who recently floated a party called Makkal Needhi Maiam, Rajini said, "Kamal is not my enemy. My rivals are poverty, corruption and unemployment."

The superstar also said that the Sterlite plant is not needed for Tamil Nadu despite the fact that it makes many crores of rupees as revenue. "We should not allow soil, water and air to get polluted," he said and added: "Even if one among the panchaboothas (five elements) get spoiled, the whole world will get destroyed."
