A partnership agreement was on Wednesday signed between the Greater Chennai Corporation and the Brussels Capital Region, to 'promote common values of democracy, human dignity, solidarity and environmental protection'.
A high level Belgian delegation met the state officials and discussed about the waste to energy technologies at a function held at the Ripon Buildings, the city corporation headquarters.
Speaking on the occasion, local administration minister S P Velumani said the partnership agreement is a sign of spirit, to promote common values of democracy, human dignity, solidarity and environmental protection, in the areas of urban development and urbanisation challenges.
The agreement also aims at tackling issues such as gender equality, women empowerment, strengthening emergency response mechanisms during natural disasters, child rights in the context of urban development, protection of environment, technology and exchanges in facing administrative challenges.
The minister also informed that the Brussels Capital Region, has already provided, sufficient budgetary provision, for projects, for civil society organizations, in partnership regions, including Tamil Nadu, especially Chennai.
The agreement was signed by Corporation Commissioner D. Karthikeyan, and State secretary for development cooperation of the Brussels Capital Region, Bianca Debaets.
