Protests for Cauvery Management Board were staged in various parts of Tamil Nadu by different organisations today.
Two DMK workers today allegedly attempted self immolation while protesting against the Centre for its 'failure' to constitute the CMB in compliance with the February 16 order of the Supreme Court. Notably, agitations took place in several parts of the state.
Meanwhile, Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra said today that 'We will see that Tamil Nadu gets water' and agreed to hear Tamil Nadu's petition.
Agreeing to take up Tamil Nadu's petition for contempt against the central government over the Cauvery water dispute, the court assured justice to the state.
Within days of AIADMK MP A Navaneethakrishnan threatening in the Rajya Sabha that the party MPs would commit suicide if the Centre did not constitute the Cauvery Management Board before March 29, another party MP in the same House has said he would resign the post as a mark of protest against the Centre.
In gis two-page letter written in Tamil, Muthukaruppan said PM Modi was delaying the formation of Cauvery Management Board despite the SC verdict had pained him a lot. However, his resignation was not accepted and he too reportedly said later that he was in a dilemma.
As the Centre has failed to act upon the Supreme Court's order to constitute a Cauvery Water Management Board (CWMB) within the six-week deadline (which ended on 29 March), the DMK has announced protests in Valluvar Kottam in Chennai from 2 April to 4 April. Tomorrow, the ruling AIADMK will stage fast protest across the state.
