The United States theatrical rights of Vijay's upcoming film Mersal, directed by Atlee and produced by Thenandal Studios Ltd, have been sold for a good price.
According to sources, ATMUS Entertainment in association with US Tamil LLC have bought the rights for a huge price, which is a record for a non-Rajini Tamil film.
After getting an exclusive emoji on Twitter, Vijay's Mersal recently became the first south Indian movie to get trademarked.
"This is the first time, a title is being trademarked here. So, if anybody uses the term Mersal for commercial purposes, a part of their revenue should be paid to the team as royalty," sources said.
A few weeks before that, Mersal became the first South Indian movie to get a customized Twitter emoji. It is to be noted that the trend is already there in Bollywood and Hollywood.
Mersal is TSL's 100th film and has a stellar cast list that includes actors like Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Kajal Aggarwal, Nithya Menen, Sathyaraj, S.J. Suryah and Vadivelu, among others.
