Babri Masjid anniversary Tight security in Chennai

Security has been beefed up across Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, in view of the 26th anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition today.

The number of security personnel deployed has been increased in major cities, towns and district headquarters across the State, with watch towers and check-posts being set up at vantage points.

Nearly 1,00,000 police personnel are tasked with the maintenance of law and order, even though no threat has been received so far.

In Chennai alone, over 15,000 police personnel have been deployed in places of worship, airport, railway stations, bus stands, hotels and commercial spaces, including malls.

Vehicle checkings at regular intervals are being conducted to avoid any untoward incident. CCTV cameras surveillance is active at every important location.

Police sources said that while the vigil has been tightened at all places, important spots like Central railway station, Chennai airport etc have been brought under heightened vigil.
