Former telecom minister A Raja, DMK MP Kanimozhi and all other accused were on Thursday acquitted in the politically-sensitive 2G spectrum allocation scam cases by a special court which held that the prosecution 'miserably failed' to prove the charges.
Raja, who was at the centre of the allegations in India’s biggest graft case, on Thursday said a trial court acquitting him of all charges proved that the presumptive loss in allocation of 2G spectrum was “cooked-up”.
In Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu, DMK cadres broke into celebrations with the party's working president M K Stalin claiming the verdict as historic.
The massive propaganda against the UPA on 2G spectrum was without any foundation, former prime minister Manmohan Singh said after a special court acquitted all accused in the spectrum scam case. The judgement speaks for itself, Singh said.
"I do not want to boast (about) anything. The court's judgement has to be respected. I am glad that the court has pronounced unambiguously. All the massive propaganda which was being done against the UPA was without any foundation. The judgement speaks for itself," Dr Singh said.
Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) will appeal the judgement of the CBI special court that acquitted all the accused in the 2G case and ordered the release of assets seized in a money-laundering case that branched out of the alleged scam in spectrum allocation.
