RK Nagar: EPS, OPS blame DMK; Stalin says partnership between TTV-ministers

The ruling AIADMK, on Sunday, alleged that there was a tacit understanding between TTV Dhinakaran and the opposition DMK to defeat it in the RK Nagar bypoll, where the sidelined party leader emerged victorious.

However, DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Sunday termed the RK Nagar by-poll, whose result saw his party nominee forfeiting his deposit, as a “Himalayan defeat” for the Election Commission, which he accused of “failing miserably” to control the sea of money that flowed in the constituency.

In a statement, he said it was not a defeat for his party, but a Himalayan defeat for  the Election Commission of India, which remained silent when voters were bribed even on the polling day.

Despite the High court stating that those bribing votrs

should be dealt with an iron hand, the police and the EC

remained silent, he alleged.

Meanwhile, the AIADMK will brainstorm here today on Sunday's defeat at a meeting at the party headquarters at Royapettah. It will be presided over by chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam.

The ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu on Sunday suffered a major setback with rival faction candidate T T V Dhinakaran winning the prestigious RK Nagar Assembly bypoll, bettering Jayalalithaa's margin.
