Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday visited cyclone Ockhi-hit Lakshadweep, Kanyakumari and Thiruvananthapuram to review relief operations.
He listened to the grievances of a couple of women from the families of missing fishermen. The women spoke in Tamil, and Modi patiently listened to them.
Addressing a gathering of fishermen families who had lost their kin due to Cyclone Ockhi, Modi said the Central government is with the fishers who have suffered loss of lives and property due to the cyclone.
"This is a moment of pain and sorrow. This is not the time to lecture about the tragedy. I am here to join you in your pain," he said.
Around 40 fishermen from the coastal villages and six parish priests participated in interaction with the Prime Minister and also handed over memorandums with 12 demands.
Tamil Nadu, on Tuesday, sought a central relief package of Rs 9,300 crore for rehabilitation efforts in the state, which faced the monsoon fury, including this coastal town that was battered by cyclone Ockhi.
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami presented a memorandum for Rs 9,302 crore to Prime Minister Modi who visited Kanyakumari district to take stock of the situation post Ockhi.
