Raj Bhavan denies TN governor entered bathroom occupied by woman

The Raj Bhavan has termed as mischievous and scurrilous media reports that Governor Banwarilal Purohit entered an occupied bathroom in Cuddalore district during a review of toilets built under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

The statement said some television channels carried "malicious, scurrilous, mischievous, improper and incorrect" reports, and added that any news about Raj Bhavan should be reported after due verification.

"A malicious and scurrilous report has appeared with regard to an incident reported from Cuddalore on the matter of District Collector and other officials accompanying Purohit to see toilets built under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan programme.

It is clarified and emphasized that the toilet constructed under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan programme was in the house of one Smt. Gowri," the statement added.

Another statement denied that two people were killed after they were hit by Purohit's convoy. It said the incident happened when an esort vehicle of Kanchipuram police was on its way back after being part of the governor's journey.

Earlier, reports said a 12-year boy and a 35-year-old man were killed. One of the injured is an elderly woman. The accident took place when Purohit was on his way back to Chennai from Cuddalore. The reports said the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit the pedestrians.

Members and functionaries of the DMK and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) on Friday staged a black flag demonstration condemning Governor's meeting with government officials of various departments in Cuddalore during his two-day visit to the district.
