Body of Sepoy Moorthy, who died in an avalanche in Jammu and Kashmir, will be brought home in Karur on Saturday.
Moorthy hailing (33) hailing from Nachikalathuppatti village in the district and working in the Indian Army for the last 14 years, was posted at the Indian border at Kuresh in Bandhibora district of J and K.
Moorthy is married and has 2 sons, aged 6 and 3, sources said.
The army’s Srinagar-based spokesman colonel Rajesh Kalia said that two soldiers slipped down a slope in Naugam area of Kupwara district and three soldiers went missing from a forward post in Kanzalwan area in Gurez Bandipora district during heavy snowfall.
"Late Sep Moorthy N was part of an operational team which was serving in the formidable heights along the Line of Control and got swept away during a snow slide on 11 Dec 2017. Concerted efforts of the specially equipped Avalanche Rescue Teams, which continued searches despite the inhospitable terrain and weather conditions, have led to the recovery of his mortal remains on 19 December," said spokesman in a statement.
Sep Moorthy N was 32 years old and had donned the uniform in 2004.
The Tamil Nadu government, on Friday, announced that Rs 20 lakh solatium would be given to the family of a sepoy, who died in an avalanche in Jammu and Kashmir. This was said by chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami in a release.
