NIA files charge sheet against Chennai man for ISIS links

The National Investigation Agency has filed Charge Sheet before the NIA Special Court at New Delhi, against two accused persons namely Shajahan of Kannur, Kerela and Mohd. Mustafa of Mannady, Chennai, for their alleged links with ISIS.



"Accused Shajahan was arrested on 01.07.2017 at IGI Airport, New Delhi by Delhi Police on his deportation by
the Turkish authorities. Another accused Mohd. Mustafa was arrested from Chennai, on 12.07.2017. Subsequently, the NIA took over investigation of the case on the orders of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India," said a press release.



It said Shajahan Velluva Kandy is a member of proscribed international terrorist organisation ISIS. In Oct. 2016, he along with his family went to Turkey via Malaysia with intention to go to Syria for fighting on behalf of the ISIS.



However, while crossing Turkey-Syria border, he was apprehended along with his family by the Turkish authorities and deported back to India on 10.02.2017.



After deportation, in March, 2017, he acquired a new Indian passport in the name of Mohammad Ismail Mohideen with the help of accused Mohd. Mustafa, who facilitated Shajahan Velluva Kandy in procuring an Indian passport on the basis of forged documents, despite having knowledge of Shajahan’s
intention to go to perform hijra to Syria.



"On 31 March 2017, Shajahan along with Mustafa went to Bangkok enroute to his final destination to Syria. Mustafa returned to India on 01.04.2017. However, accused Shajahan went to Turkey and was again apprehended by the Turkish authorities while crossing over to Syria. He was deported to India on 01.07.2017."



Further investigation against other co-accused persons is continuing in the case.
