What Stalin told Vidyasagar Rao?

DMK on Friday urged Tamil Nadu Governor C. Vidyasagar Rao to ensure a government after a fair floor test in the state assembly. DMK Working President M.K. Stalin met Rao and made the submission.

“We request the Governor to look into the developing situation closely and seek an early intervention to ensure a democratically and Constitutionally valid government in place without further loss of time through a free-and-fair floor test,” Stalin said.

The floor test should be in “total conformity with the Constitutional provisions” and also, in accordance with the parameters laid down by the Supreme Court in the SR Bommai case, he added.

The DMK complained of a constitutional vacuum now in Tamil Nadu, with acting Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam relegated to the side due to the infighting in the ruling AIADMK.

The DMK cited news reports to allege that AIADMK legislators were kept in undisclosed destinations and under close watch against their will by party General Secretary V.K. Sasikala.

The letter read: “We are certain that the Hon’ble Governor is aware of the series of events that has pushed the state into a political and constitutional stalemate, just as the State was about to return from the uncertainty caused due to the ill health of the former Chief Minister of TN, her sudden death and the transition of power thereafter."
