7 fall from moving train in Chennai, 3 killed

Three commuters were killed on the spot, and four others injured, when they were hit by a signalling post near St Thomas Mount railway station today.

The students were standing on the footboard of a Chengalpet -Chennai Beach suburban train when the bag of one of the victims was caught in a signal post between Palavanthangal and St Thomas Mount railway stations, dragging him down, according to a Railway Protection Force officer.

Dr P Vijayakumar, Superintendent of Railway Police Force said, “Seven people fell while traveling on the footboard of the suburban train. Three of those who fell have died in the incident.”

Those injured have been rushed to the Chromepet General Hospital.

The accident took place around 9 a.m. and the train was moved to Beach station the after injured were rushed to the GH. The bodies were removed to the hospital for post mortem.

The deceased and the injured were students. They were yet to be identified. It was not known where they were studying.
