J Jayalalithaa's niece Deepa Jayakumar launched a new political forum called 'MGR AMMA Deepa Peravai', on her aunt 69th birth anniversary on Friday.
Unveiling her plans at her T Nagar residence, Deepa said that she was immensely happy to embark on her political journey on the birth anniversary of Jayalalithaa.
"I will continue my work as the political heir of Amma," she said.
Addressing a crowded press conference at her home, Deepa said her political journey had "begun" and also unveiled a flag depicting the images of Jayalalithaa and M G Ramachandran which she said was only a flag of the Forum named as 'MGR AMMA Deepa Forum'.
Responding to a query, Deepa said the people desired that she contest from R K Nagar constituency that fell vacant following the demise of the late AIADMK supremo.
Flanked by her husband Madhavan, Deepa said that she would retrieve two leaves symbol of AIADMK. "Democracy has been murdered," she said, recalling the recent political developments in the state. "I have begun journey to retrieve the people of Tamil Nadu from these traitors."
Deepa said she will contest elections from the RK Nagar constituency which was represented by her aunt.
Deepa also did not rule out an alliance with former chief minister O Panneerselvam, who lost a high-stakes gamble of revolting against AIADMK general secretary VK Sasikala, who was jailed in a corruption case barely a few days ago.
