Get ready for Assembly elections, Stalin tells DMK cadre

Leader of opposition in Tamil Nadu Assembly M K Stalin on Wednesday claimed a government led by either O Panneerselvam or any AIADMK nominee would not be stable and could lead to elections to the state assembly even before local body polls, due already.

Addressing party workers at a meeting here, the DMK Working President said the present government headed by caretaker Chief Minister Panneerselvam was only an interim arrangement.

On Tuesday, in his first reaction to the Supreme Court verdict convicting VK Sasikala in the disproportionate assets case, Stalin said justice had finally been served.

Speaking to reporters on the apex court’s verdict, “this will serve as an example and I hope that politicians are corruption- free in public life,” he said, adding that the Governor should now exercise his powers and ensure a stable govt is in place in Tamil Nadu.

With the political cauldron continuing to boil due to the battle for power within the ruling AIADMK, the main opposition party, the DMK, held a crucial meeting of its high level executive committee in Chennai on Monday.

DMK MP Kanimozhi said in Madurai that it was not necessary for her party to interfere in the internal issues of the AIADMK, adding it was also not acceptable that the DMK be blamed for the confusion.
