Sasikala in jail, special facilities denied

AIADMK general secretary V K Sasikala, whose conviction in a disproportionate assets case was upheld by the Supreme Court on Tuesday, was sent to jail on Wednesday.

Before that, she surrendered before the special court at Parappana Agrahara central jail on the outskirts of the Karnataka capital.

Sasikala prayed at Jayalalithaa's memorial at Marina beach in Chennai before leaving to Bengaluru for appearing in front of court on Wednesday.

At the Jayalalithaa memorial on the Marina Beach, Sasikala paid floral tributes and was seen muttering something which was not audible. She also took a vow by slamming the 'samadhi' thrice.

According to the AIADMK’s official Twitter handle she took “a mighty vow” at the memorial to “overcome the conspiracy, treachery and crisis against” her.

During the proceedings, Sasikala's lawyers submitted before the court that she was suffering from diabetes and age-related ailments, and sought a Class-I facility for her in jail. The judge, however, rejected the plea.

Elavarasi too surrendered along with Sasikala. The third accused, Sudhakaran, arrived at the court later. He claimed that his vehicle had broken down on the way.
