Assembly violence: DMK calls for hunger strike across TN on Feb 22

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Sunday called for a hunger strike on February 22 at all of its district offices in the state, a day after its MLAs were forcibly evicted from the Tamil Nadu Assembly.

"I will participate in Tiruchi for the hunger strike on February 22," said DMK working president and leader of opposition in TN Assembly, M K Stalin.

Earlier in the day, an FIR was also filed against Stalin, his party MLAs, MPs and cadres for holding a protest at Marina beach against the alleged attack on him and his MLAs during the trust vote in the Assembly.

Meanwhile, Stalin held a special meeting with party MLAs at DMK headquarters in Chennai.

Speaking to the media, Stalin said he will participate in the hunger strike from Tiruchi. He added that the party MLAs are trying to meet President Pranab Mukherjee.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Saturday won the vote of confidence in the state assembly, with the proceedings marred by pandemonium that saw the opposition DMK evicted by the Speaker, and the Congress too walked out.
