I-T raid at Poes Garden again?

Income-Tax officials are said to have on Thursday conducted raids at the old Jaya TV office located at the Poes Garden. The office is located right next door to former chief minister J Jayalalithaa's house.

According to sources, some rooms were sealed during the raids that were conducted earlier and plans were there to open them to conduct fresh search. "Also, certain documents were brought under lens," sources added.

Meanwhile, a day after the Tamil Nadu government set four months deadline to acquire late Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa's residence, Veda Nilayam, social activist Traffic KR Ramaswamy has moved the Madras high court seeking to stop the acquisition.

Ramaswamy wanted the court to restrain the state government from acquiring and converting the Poes Garden residence in Chennai as a memorial using public funds.

Ramaswamy said that the government should not be allowed to go ahead with the memorial for Jayalalithaa, who, he claimed, had been "declared a convict" in the disproportionate assets case by the Supreme Court in February last year.

He wanted the court to restrain the government from acquiring "Veda Nilayam", Jayalalithaas residence in the posh Poes Graden locality, and converting it into a memorial using public funds.

Ramaswamy has moved the court a couple of days after government commenced the acquisition process to survey the property and complete the acquisition under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act.
