The first day of the Tamil Nadu Assembly session convened on Monday and the opposition DMK staged a walkout boycotting the Governor's address.
MK Stalin, working president of DMK,said that the Governor Banwarilal Purohit was praising the government. He added: "the Governor's speech failed to mention the increase in debt and revenue loss that Tamil Nadu is facing.”
Soon after he arrived, Purohit greeted all members of the House with a Vanakkam and began his address. Even as Purohit began to speak, Stalin was on his feet trying to raise some issues.
Amid noisy scenes, sidelined AIADMK leader TTV Dhinakaran, who made his debut in the Assembly after having won the December 21 RK Nagar bypoll by a thumping margin of 40,000 votes, was seated calmly.
As DMK's Stalin walked out of the Tamil Nadu Assembly with his party members, Congress members and the lone Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) legislator also followed him. The Governor then continued his address.
In his customary address marking the opening of the Assembly session, he said the government has constituted a Shelter Fund to support housing for the urban poor. A law will be enacted during the session to enable the levy of shelter charges.
A law to replace the Tamil Nadu Business Facilitation Ordinance 2017 will be enacted to ensure ease of doing business by strengthening the single window clearance system. It will stipulate timelines for approvals and deemed approvals. The government has given in-principle approval to covert East Coast Road into a national highway, the NH-45 A, with a proposal for four-laning it.
