A day after Kamal Haasan cast apprehensions on TTV Dhinakaran’s victory in RK Nagar by-election and stated that people had sold their votes, a Tamil outfit has threatened to stage protest against him, while supporters of Dhinakaran tried to burn his effigy.
Security has been provided to the actor’s house. Sources say that a team of police is posted in front of his Alwarpet residence. A Tamil outfit had stated that it would lay siege to his house in protest against his remarks on RK Nagar voters.
On Thursday, in his weekly column in a Tamil magazine, Kamal said RK Nagar voters sold themselves for 'Rs 20 token' in the recently concluded by-election.
He was referring to Rs 20 notes which were allegedly distributed to voters by the supporters of TTV Dhinakaran, promising that they could exchange it for more money after the by-election.
Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan on Friday urged Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami to take steps to find an amicable solution to the ongoing strike by transport workers, which has crippled the movement of people in the state.
In a tweet in Tamil, he said, "the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, having in mind the troubles faced by the public and the genuine demands of transport workers, should please hold talks (with employees)."
He added that "this (amicable solution through talks) will be the valuable Pongal gift by the state government."
