Dhinakaran meets Governor, but MLA from his camp jumps to EPS faction

Sidelined AIADMK (Amma) deputy chief T T V Dhinakaran on Thursday urged Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao to act on the plea of his loyalist MLAs seeking ouster of Chief Minister K Palaniswami, his deputy O Panneerselvam and their demand for a floor test in the Assembly.

But Cumbun MLA ST Jakkaiyan, who supporting Dhinakaran all these days, defected to the Edappadi Palaniswami camp.

Jakkaiyan on Thursday met Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker Dhanpal and informed him that he was supporting Palaniswami as he did not want the problems within the AIADMK to benefit Opposition party Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

"He was threatened and lured for party posts," Dhinakaran said, adding that three more MLAs have offered support to him.

Dhinakaran said his delegation had asked the governor to quickly act on the petition that they had filed asking Palaniswami to be removed from the post of chief minister.

“We all saw in the MLA meeting held on September 5 that Edappadi Palaniswamai does not have 117 MLAs,” he said.

In the 234-member Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, the AIADMK needs at least 117 votes to remain in power. Right now, the two-leaf party has 134 seats in the Assembly, excluding the House Speaker's and Jayalalithaa's seat.
