Chief Minister K Palaniswami has claimed his government enjoyed the support of 'all the AIADMK MLAs' in the Assembly even as the legislators loyal to sidelined party deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran continued to stay put at a Puducherry resort.
Meanwhile, the MLAs supporting Dhinakaran would meet Tamil Nadu governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao today. "Dhinakaran has been given appointment to meet the governor at 12 noon. He will be accompanied by MLAs supporting him," sources said.
The appointment was given following a request from Dhinakaran. The rebel leader is likely to submit a representation to the governor to prove the support he has among the 19 MLAs and more.
Except for an event in Hyderabad last week, Rao had been in Chennai since August 26 and gave appointments to opposition party leaders, including a DMK-led delegation.
In his last meeting with Left and VCK, the governor was quoted as saying that the "ball has not come to his court and the ongoing political turmoil is intra-party rift and does not warrant any action."
Palaniswami and Dhinakaran are involved in a tussle for power with the unified AIADMK declaring that the latter had been removed from the Deputy General Secretary post on August 10 itself and questioning his authority to make changes in the party set up.
Palaniswami said on Wednesday: "AIADMK has 134 MLAs in the Tamil Nadu Assembly and if we count Speaker, the count comes to 135. All 135 MLAs are still with the AIADMK and they have not left the party. The government is strong and there is no threat to it."
