DMK working president M K Stalin on Sunday called on Tamil Nadu Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao and urged him to direct the state government to prove its majority in the assembly within a week, in view of rebellion by a section of ruling AIADMK Amma legislators.
After meeting governor Rao, Stalin demanded immediate floor test in the Tamil Nadu assembly, adding that his party would be forced to take legal action if the Governor does not pay heed to the request.
“If the Governor does not respond to our request within a week then we will have to take legal resort and mobilize peoples’ mandate,” he said.
With the ruling AIADMK divided — its Deputy General Secretary TTV Dhinakaran claims the support of at least 21 legislators who had written to Rao that they had withdrawn support to Palaniswami — the government no longer has the requisite majority, Stalin said.
Last week, Dhinakaran - who has repeatedly claimed that he has no intention of pulling down the EPS government -- had met Rao with a similar demand.
After the meeting, his camp too, said they will explore options if the Governor did not provide a positive response.
Stalin claimed that the Palaniswami government was having lesser number of MLAs supporting it in the 234-member assembly with one vacancy.
"The DMK has 89 MLAs, Congress eight and IUML one in the assembly totalling 98 MLAs, plus 21 MLAs from the T T V Dhinakaran camp...the total is 119, which is higher than the 114 MLAs who support the Palaniswami government," he said.
