They will represent India in the prestigious IOI-2017 to be held in Tehran, Iran from July 28 to August 4, 2017. The team will be led by Madhavan Mukund, Professor and Dean of Studies, CMI and National Coordinator, Indian Computing Olympiad along with K Narayan Kumar, Academic Coordinator, IOITC. For over a decade now, Sasken has been playing a major role in sponsoring the IOITC along with the travel and stay of the Indian team at IOI.
Started in 1989, the IOI is a global competition of algorithmic and programming skills for high school students with over 80 countries participating every year. India has been participating since 2002 and has won Gold (1), Silver (13), and Bronze (29) medals thus far.
The Indian Computing Olympiad was set up in 2002 to select and train students for IOI. The selection process consists of two exams (Zonal Olympiad and National Olympiad) held across the country, followed by a training camp. This year the Indian National Olympiad in Informatics, 2017 (INOI-2017) saw the participation of 326 students from all across the country of which 27 students qualified for IOITC. The training camp combines in-depth teaching with intensive lab sessions where algorithms and data structures required for IOI are taught in a problem-centric way.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Madhavan said, “The Indian Computing Olympiad has unearthed an amazing pool of talent over the past 15 years. Our alumni are doing pioneering work at leading tech companies and academic institutions across the globe. Our challenge is to reach out to a much larger pool and tap the many bright minds that otherwise go unnoticed across the country.”
Quoting the 15th anniversary of the Sasken’s association with CMI, Rajiv C Mody, Chairman, MD & CEO, Sasken Technologies Limited said, “For a long time we have been guided by our credo of unleashing Indian creativity and have been a strong proponent of industry-academia connects. We have been working closely with CMI, for over a decade, in sponsoring the best talent from India to represent the country at the International Olympiad in Informatics and some of these students have won the highest accolades there. It is heartening to know that many of them are pioneering and trailblazing research and development activities in multiple domains across the world.”
