Temperature crossed 107°F in Chennai on Thursday, for the first time in this summer season. Also, heat wave was reported in various parts of the city including the arterial Anna Salai.
The Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave warning for north Tamil Nadu, with people advised to stay indoors during the day.
“The present weather conditions in Chennai and north Tamil Nadu are expected to last for another two days,” said S Balachandran, Director of Area Cyclone Warning Centre, Chennai.
On Thursday, the mercury level touched this season's high of 42.7 Deg C (fraction short of 109 Deg F--108.86 to be precise) midway through the day.
The same temperature of 42.7 Deg C was recorded on May 27,
2013 and last year the highest temperature recorded in the month of May in 2016 was 40.8 Deg C (105.44 Deg F) on May 26.
Meanwhile, much to people’s relief, Chennai rains is all set to make appearance over the city. Chennaiites have been battling extremely hot weather conditions for the last many days. In fact on Thursday, the day maximums had already reached 43°C around 12:30 pm, making weather unbearable. However, weather has taken a u-turn and we can now expect some pre-Monsoon rains over the state capital, a report in skymetweather.com said.
